Pilates

Body Control Pilates is an exercise method that allows you to target deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out. You will learn how to rebalance your body, bringing it into correct alignment.

You can literally reshape your body so you become longer, leaner, taller and more toned. Pilates offers both mental and physical training, teaching you how to relieve pain, stress and tension. You will become more body aware, and start using your body with greater ease and comfort.

Pilates plays a key role in many injury rehabilitation programmes in dance, sport and general practice and is recommended by many health professionals such as physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors.

History

The Body Control Pilates method is based on the work of Joseph Pilates, born in Dusseldorf in 1880. A frail child, he turned to physical fitness programs to improve his body image. His method was further developed rehabilitating the injured during his internment in the 2nd world war.

In the 1920’s he set up a fitness studio in New York, attracting the elite of the city, dancers, athletes, and the rich and famous. Some of his clients went on to become instructors and spread the Pilates word.

Today, Pilates is still the preferred work-out regime for leading personalities from the world of entertainment and sport such as Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Hugh Grant, the New Zealand All Blacks and David Beckham.
